What Kind of Burning Questions Do You Have?

I really want to know! Do you have any questions for me about ACROSS THE UNIVERSE, A MILLION SUNS, or even *gasp* SHADES OF EARTH?

I'll be posting the five best questions + answers in a special feature next week. Please let me know what you want to know!

Here's a Question!: If poor, darling Harley had lived, did you ever consider him becoming a legitimate rival for elder concerning Amy's Affections? I've always wondered this :)

I want to know how everyone on Godspeed got to be one race? They must have taken people from Sol earth that were all the same race, because it couldn't have taken only a couple hundred years for them to all mix together and end up as a mono-ethnicity, right?

As I have only read Across the Universe so far, my most burning question is: what is going to happen next??
But I guess you can't answer that. So here's a real question: Will Amy and Elder (now Eldest) end up together all the way at the end? :)

What was the hardest part about writing any of the three books? What was the best part?

How did you prepare to write these books? Did you do any research about space or spacecrafts or anything like that?

My question is: Will Amy's parents ever wake up?

Are aliens going to show up? :P

Is there an inspiration for Elder? A celebrity face you imagined, characteristics and personality quirks you borrowed from somebody close?

If Godspeed has been "slowing down" as Eldest said, even though that's not quite logical based on Newton's law of physics, wouldn't they have to change their course astronomically to compensate for the planet's spin and orbit?
Sorry I'm not trying to criticize your logic it's just been bugging me.

When you wrote Across the Universe and A Million Suns, did you have the ending of Shades of Earth in mind? Or did the three books evolve independently of each other?

Since Eldest is now dead, does that mean Elder is Eldest now?

Was is a coincidence that there's a red-headed Amy who happens to travel space in your book AND Doctor Who. We all know you love yourself some DW... ;)

Somebody already asked it but I'm asking again, just hoping you will answer if more people ask! So, if Harley didn't die do you think it might have turned into a love triangle. They seemed very sweet together!

In chapter 7 of ATU Amy is still frozen. Is she dreaming or is it real that someone was trying to wake her up? Is it a lie that the cryo's can not be frozen again?

Why was Luthe admitted into the hospital ward? He seems crazy enough...

Sachi said...

Hmm, did any of the previous elders know of Amy's existence? I wonder if Orion knew before she became unfrozen. I know he has secrets....

If Amy's trunk WAS packed, what items would she bring along to Godspeed?

@Tricia if you went on the ACROSS THE UNIVERSE facebook page and read chapter 1 of A MILLION SUNS, it explains that in fact, Godspeed was going too fast and NOT too slow as we were led to believe. (You'll know how that came to be if you read the first chapter.)

Beth: I'm sure you've had negative reviews, though I loved ACROSS THE UNIVERSE. You might know about the fiasco on Goodreads recently. So my question is, where do you think the author-reader/blogger relationship stands, and how do you think an author should handle unpleasant thoughts?

How was the ship stocked with supplies when they were leaving Earth? How did they know what they'd need?

Have you visited any NASA places or space museums? Which ones do you recommend?

Was Harley inspired by anyone/anything? Will he be returning in any sort of way?

Across the Universe was one of the most captivating and unbelievably intriguing books of 2011!I can honestly say that this was the book that got me started on dystopian space novels! My question:
In dystopian novels, some authors choose to create a setting in which society has regressed back to a simpler was of life (such as the Seam in the Hunger Games where electricity and food availablity is sparse) as opposed to a more technologically advanced society (the Capitol in the Hunger Games or Glow by Amy Kathleen Ryan). When thinking of the universe in which to set Amy and Elder's story in, what elements of life now helped you choose to progress further with technology?
*I just finished writing a dystopian novel and wondered how you were thinking about it!

Will we ever get to know what happened to Amy's friends on earth?

So are you planning to do more books with the series AFTER the whole trilogy is published? I mean... you could go ALOT of different directions with this! you could write about Amy's life on (Sol-)Earth... you could write a book about the life on Godspeed before the "plague," (or even after it but before Amy was unfrozen)... and (i dont know if this is even a possiblity because i havent read the 2nd or 3rd book but i hope that it would be) but about Amy and Elder's kids life on Godspeed...YOU HAVE A MILLION OPTIONS!! So the questions is... Are you going to sieze one?

Lexi said...

What kind of writing program did you use to write your books?
Okay that's not the best question BUT I am interested:)
Also:
When writing the series did you ever consider that they could be dystopian. I mean, Elder was a dictator a life on Godspeed seems scary, so...

After Shades of Earth is all finished and the series has ended, Do you have any plans on writing other books and series and if so do you have any ideas planned out for them? and would you stick in the Sci-fi/Young Adult realm?

how much time lapses between A million suns and shades of earth? SPOILER!! how long will it take the shuttle to land on earth? END OF SPOILER.

Book 1 Spoiler! - In the ending of AtU, we find out that the original "Elder"/Orion had removed his ear connector/hearing aid thing and hid himself from Eldest in the Recorder Hall.

How was it that Eldest never ran across the original Elder/Orion, considering he was the one in charge and would have visited the Recorder Hall at some point in time?

AND

Sort of a branch off of Sachi's comment...
Since Elder is an exact replica of Eldest, wouldn't the original Eldest in AtU be just as curious about the ships "frozen guests" as Elder was when he found Amy? I'd like to know how Eldest from AtU was when he was an "Elder" himself, before Amy and Elder's time.

AND - last question I swear!!

Sort of off the topic of AtU series, but I watched one of your videos about how writing a book takes many edits and copies and how you wrote like 7 or 8 other stories before AtU was picked up. Do you think that after finding success with AtU, would you go back to those other stories? I would really love to see what else you write, because not only does the story of AtU draw you in, but it's your original style of writing.

Thanks! I also loved Arianna's question about Amy's trunk... that would be a really cool piece of info to learn!
