There are a lot of reasons to love Fireside. First: the people. I know I can walk into the store and be greeted personally--often with a suggestion of a book that I will love. If Valerie hands me a title, I know I'm going to gobble the book up.
But Fireside has a special place in my heart because it's where I had my first author event--my launch party for ACROSS THE UNIVERSE. I was gobsmacked by the response, and every time I walk into the store, I remember how wonderful it was to see everyone and launch my book at Fireside.
So, of course, I love Fireside most of all--but I love all indie bookstores, and today's about celebrating indies!
And one of my very very favorite things about indie bookstores is that they are most likely to have...signed books! I love signed books--in fact, that's about the only thing I collect--and I love that often, authors will partner with indie bookstores in order to provide signed books!

I've become obsessed with signed books lately too. I love that I can find lots of them at Powells! I love powells.
John green has books signed through his local bookstore, The Book Cellar http://www.bookcellarinc.com/index.php I'm not sure if they're indie, but I think so...
Also Richelle Mead will go to her local bookstore, University Book Store, and sign copies for readers too. She gives instructions here: http://www.richellemead.com/shop/shop.htm No idea if her's is indie either. :/

My local bookstore, Porter Square Books has signings every week. They don't always have a YA author in. But I've gotten signed books from Alice Hoffman, Grace Lin, Kate DiCamillo, and Nancy Werlin.
Holly Black visited our other local bookstore, Harvard Square Books, so I got a signed copy of White Cat.

I love Indies. We have a wonderful one, Nicola's Bookstore. And I remember when Borders was an Indie.
My indie of choice is BookPeople in Austin, TX. Their YA wall is to die for. :) Also, Megan Whalen Turner will sign books at a 'bookseller near her.' You have to email her to arrange everything, so I don't know if she works with indies or not. :/
