Ask Me Anything

After discussing it on Twitter, I decided to try this out...

Some of you may have noticed that I have a FAQ on my website. And...er...it's kind of lame. Because the Frequently Asked Questions are, for the most part, questions I made up to fill out the FAQ.

So I thought--are there any questions you want to ask?

YES! I want to know what you think of Star Trek. And Star Wars. THAT IS TOTALLY RELEVANT, RIGHT?

Oh, pick me! Er, what was I going to say again? Oh yes...

What was your biggest writing craft "ah ha!" moment during those first nine books? Or maybe a series of ahas? Maybe aaaaahaaaaa? Moving on...

Did you know #9 was THE ONE before you sent it out, or did you think each one was the one...until it wasn't?

Dude! Are you going to even be able to sleep during that awesome tour? And why the heck aren't you coming to Chicago??

Ok, I'll stop now. :)

What have you learned about the publishing industry that you think aspiring authors should know?

I'm seconding Jordyn's question! (Or suggestion, as it may be.)

Across the Universe is part-mystery with huge twists -- did you plan everything out before writing? Or did you go back and add in hints/etc. later?

I hear writers and agents adulating about the importance of conferences, but really, what are the good ones? Is it worth it to fly out to New York if you're from the Pacific Northwest? The only conference I've spotted in my area is for the Pacific Northwest Writer's Association. What are some great conferences? (Near or far.)

Writing in different POVs. What's your thoughts??

AND, what music do you listen to while writing?? Or do you?

LOL
Enjoy your weekend, Beth.

OH THE FANGIRL GETS A QUESTION! PICK ME PICK ME! Was there any movie, TV show, or song that just inspired a pivotal scene in ATU? Without giving away spoilers can you say what that would be and how it helped for that scene?

Oh, you should never ask a fellow writer to ask questions. You've been forewarned:

1) Did you ever want to give up on this story, thinking there was no way you could write it as well as it should be written?

2) To ask a more specific question about POVs--when do you think a character would be better in first person rather than third? (I'm struggling with that right now on the Story of 1.5 Years.)

3) Do you concentrate more on character or plot? Why?

Okay, I'll leave you alone. :o)

By the way, I just had my library order the book. I was like, "This book is going to be huge. You've gotta get it!"

At any point did you want to giveup and stop writing?

What do you hope your readers will gain from AtU?

I third Jordyn's question and ask Who do you love more Kirk or Picard?

Also, what movie is the must see movie of 2010-I'm way behind on my movies and need to catch up!

And-what can do I do to convince my husband to watch Doctor Who? He complains that he doesn't like SF!

Do you prefer writing first drafts, or do you prefer the revision process? Why?

If you could be any character in a book/movie/TV show, who would you choose (and why)?

Where, specifically, is your favorite place in the world? Why? (This could be a city, a cupboard under the stairs, a cafe, a park…anything.)

:)

When you started querying Across the Universe, were you told that Sci Fi is "out"? (Because I've heard that from some people, but now I've heard it's making a comeback"

What were some of your favorite Sci Fi or Fantasy books/authors as a child?

How many drafts did you go through before you thought your book was ready to send to an agent?

If ATU was a movie who would YOU want to play the characters in your book?

Hmmm, I knew this one was the one, Susan. :)

Beth, I can and have asked you tons of questions. Bugged you till the cows came home.

What I need to know is do you need help with the launch? Call me. Email me. :)

And to the last question. You'd make a pretty cool Amy. Dye he hair, etc. :)

What drives you? (to write, especially).

What single novel shaped you the most? Why?

What are three things you find very beautiful?

When/how did you decide you wanted to become a writer? How did you stay at it when it became hard?

And the most important question of all: Pirate or Ninja? Why? ;)
