Today in Class: Not Quite the Same Thing

We're starting religious studies. The kids are working in groups, comparing the different religions of the world.

Kid 1: I know this guy who read the whole Bible. Every word.

Kid 2: So?

Kid 1: It's, like, HUGE!

Kid 2: So? I read Twilight, and it's practically the same size.

Me: *HUGE FACEPALM*

    And Twilight talks about the Bible... so basically reading Twilight is like reading the Bible isn't it? I mean, the Bible has people who sparkle. And people coming back from the dead. And people who kill lions. Coincedence?

    No? It's not the same thing?

    Wait, does that mean Meyer is not a god either? Hmmmm....

    That is great. BTW, I'm totally jealous that you get to hang with teens every single day. Well, not really hang, but you know what I mean.

    (The Bible and Twilight may LOOK the same size, but the type's a lot smaller in the Bible. Lots more words there...)

    Hilarious, hilarious, hilarious! Do you ever get worried that your students (or parents) will see your blog and take offense?
    I love the blog, am a teacher also, and have wondered about this.

    Sashikaufman: I do sometimes worry about it--but as I keep it very general, and it's meant in good-nature, not maliciousness, I think it's OK. None of what I post for this is anything that I wouldn't say to the kids' or parents' faces, so I generally use that as a mark of what's OK to publish and what's not. Also, I keep it anonymous just in case.
