Book Give-away! The Forest of Hands and Teeth

So, you didn't get a chance to go to the launch party for The Forest of Hands and Teeth? Don't feel bad! I've got you covered!

I have prepared for you--yes, YOU--a goody bag of all the stuff from the launch party--a little zombie man, a tin of gummy brains, a bookmark, a postcard of the launch party, and, best of all, a signed copy of Carrie's book!

Here's all the swag you'll be getting.
The Book. Signed. On the inside. Obviously.

The Swag. OK, so you might not be interested in the book mark. But how about...

Brains and a Zombie! AHHH!

One of the things I loved about Carrie's book launch was the little goodies. She had the little plastic zombie men in a fishbowl, and stacks of gummy brains in tins. I thought that was so clever! So, if you'd like to win all the swag I stashed from her party, all you have to do is leave me a comment, telling me what swag you'd like to give for your book launch (if you're an aspiring writer), what swag you did give away at your book launch (if you're a published author), or what swag you think would be cool to get if you went to a book launch for your favorite book (if you're a reader).

As always, there are many ways to win:
  1. Comment with your dreams of swag: = 1 entry
  2. Become a follower of the blog = 1 entry
  3. If you were already a follower of my blog before this contest = 2 entries (this only counts for people in the "readers" section in my sidebar--these are the only people I can see to verify this)
  4. Link to this contest on your website = 1 entry
  5. Link to my blog/this contest in the sidebar of your website = 1 entry
  6. Get a direct referral = 1 entry (if someone comments in the blog that they found the contest from you, then you get the extra entry)
  7. ETA: You don't have to do multiple entries in the comments section :) You can just bunch it all up and I'll sort through it :)
Here's the mumbo-jumbo of the rules:
  • Sorry, but I can only ship to the US--but if you're outside the US, I'd still love to know your swag story (and if you win, you could have it shipped to a USian friend!)
  • Contest ends April 5th. I will stop taking comments at 11:59PM on April 4th, EST.
  • If you are a writer and would like some linky-love to your blog from this website, please leave that in the comments and I'll make a special effort to check out your blog.

ETA: So, what would I give away? My WIP is a MG fantasy that takes place inside a school...I think I'd give away little zippered pencil cases with some school supplies...and a print-out of the class schedule, including the magical teacher's class :)

  1. That's really fun! You know, I never even considered giving away stuff at a book release party. I've only been to one, and there was a band (the writer was also a guitarist) but no swag.

Hmmm...what would I give. My book is currently titled Rooster, so it would be cool if I could give away little roosters. There's also a scene where the characters get these flowers made out of fragrant wood ribbon for a cremation that they attend. That would be interesting to give out those flowers. I'm really curious to see what other people come up with.

  3. Well, my current project (and the one that I'm about to send out queries on) takes place on another world...and it's kind of like the French Revolution in space. So perhaps I'd give out mini guillotines. :D Or not. I think I'd go with bookmarks and pens and probably buttons. Because you can never have enough buttons.

Been a follower for a while. Also, there's a link on my sidebar at www.astheplotthickens.blogspot.com.
And here's a link to a post telling others to check out the contest: http://astheplotthickens.blogspot.com/2009/03/giveaway.html

(And also, any linky love is nice. :D)

  5. I'm a follower, oh wait, you already know that. As I read this post all I could think of was, "DANG IT! Why didn't I think of that!"

At my book launch I could give away little horses and miniature sized maps of the area where they were lost.

  6. This is an awesome contest! Since my book is currently being called SAGE I would give away plastic versions of the silver dipped sage leaf necklace the main character Abbey wears. And since she's the lead singer of a band I'd have some t-shirts with the bands name and logo on them.

Love this...you got me thinking of some fun ideas - thanks Beth! Oh and I'm already a follower. www.sometimesnonsense.blogspot.com

  7. I think it would probably be comical the things I could come up with for my WIP The Heart is Lonely Still.

    1. Broken heart candies? LOL
    2. Cadbury chocolates
    3. Venetian masks
    4. Book of Poetry - Byron

    How fun! ;-)

  8. Came over from Jen's Blog (As The Plot Thickens). What a great giveaway! And I love zombies... I would love to get zombie anythings. I am not writing a book at present, so I think... hmmm.... I would love to get any kind of candy as swag. Cause who can ever have enough chocolate?!?

  9. *sniffle* Us poor canadians are always left out...

I want a zombie swag. I NEED a Zombie swag! I've written about zombies, so it's only fair, after all!

I'm a follower, too. So, If I do win those gummy brains (YUM!) I want you to send the swag kit to Becca, who does live in the US. She had to read and crit my zombie book, so it's only fair, I figure.

For the swag of my book debut, it would have all things pirate-y in it--a pirate tattoo, a mini pirate flag, a recipe for grog (kid friendly, of course), and maybe a look-up list to figure out your Pirate name.

PLEEEEZZE let me win!! PLEEEEZE!! Becca can send me the book cause she loves me so much!!

    *munches on gummy brain*

  10. My release party was a few days before Halloween, so I did mini pumpkins filled with candy corn and laminated backpack tags.

    What fun zombie swag!

  11. I went and picked that book up yesterday. I am dying to read it! Good luck, everybody!

  12. Ohhh, what a cool contest!! OK: my novel, EVERLASTING, takes place in on a ship and in Australia, so along with signed copies of my book, I'd include in my swag bag: a mini-ship in a bottle, some kind of Australian product like little bottles of Vegemite (or maybe we'd do a Vegemite taste testing!), little key chains with a triangular rock (which would be Umandu, the legendary stone of the immortals from my story!), a pack of playing cards in honor of Ira, my card shark sidekick, and of course bookmarks and magnets! Oh what fun!

Here is the link to my blog with your contest featured: http://angie-frazier.livejournal.com/39856.html

I follow your blog from my blogger blog, too!

  13. Interesting question! I'm "pre-published," and one of the projects I'm working on is a biography of Susan Cervantes, who is an amazing San Francisco muralist. For that book, I would love to give away some of her manuals on how to paint your own mural. Plus she already has loads of great fridge magnets, postcards, etc of her murals. Maybe I could get a signed print from her.... now, I hope this qualifies me to win this book, which sounds awesome! Constance Lombardo

  14. I found this entry via Angie Frazier's LJ.

Okay, so this might not be realistic (read: affordable), but for my book (which is going on submissions soon, and is currently titled "SCRATCHING AT THE 8-BALL"), I'd love to give away miniature Magic 8-balls. Or, if those weren't available, maybe key chains resembling 8-balls. Another fun idea might be T-shirts with 8-ball artwork, or perhaps the book's cover art (whatever that might turn out to be!).

I love Carrie's gummy brains idea! I'd like to include some kind of a cute candy option, too. My character is in a band, so maybe some candy shaped like a guitar or something? Just as long as whatever it available isn't TOO corny. :-D

  15. OMG. I really wanted to jump in the car and go to that launch party, but the whole driving-for-days thing kind of killed that idea. How sweet of you to run this contest!!!

Let's see. I'm already a follower. I've got two books in the works. One zombie book (what is it with zombie books by people named Carrie?!?) and one superhero book. Either way, I've got patterns for these little crocheted guys. I've made a couple of zombies and ninjas so far; I'd love to get enough of a stash to give some away at a launch party. Then you'd get something handmade by the author. Am I the only person who thinks this is cool?

ohhh! I want to dream big for swag-like personalized M&M's, rubber masks of my characters, oh and book marks too. ;0)

  17. The concept of this book really intrigued me and the book trailer gave me the chills. I'd love to win a copy of this book!

What would I give away at a party? Well, not too exciting, but bookmarks, of course. And I think maybe little packs of Kleenex because everyone who has read my book said they cried more than once. Thanks!

  18. For Monarch I would give away temporary tattoos of THIS

So are we supposed to put multiple comments in here for each entry? Because I'm a follower and I'm commenting. Just a bit confused, sorry.

  19. Too funny that we are giving away the same book at the same time! :) So, obviously, I'm not entering since I already own a copy. :) But do you still want me to include you in the drawing for mine?

  21. - My debut, OTHER, comes out next year. What sort of swag would I like to give away? Hmmm. Bookmarks, little foxes and horses (since fox-spirits and pookas star in the novel), chocolate... ooh, maybe trading cards with info on the various paranormal people in the novel.

  28. My middle grade is set in ancient China. The swag I had made up included bookmarks and postcards, but ideally, I'd love to have some little plastic Chinese mini-dragons I could give away. They'd be so neat!

  29. Very cool contest, Beth!

Hmmm. What kind of swag would I give away? If I had a big budget: bookmarks, pens/pencils with the book title on it, tattoos, cool buttons, and some sort of "big" giveaway contest. I love how Laurie Halse Anderson did laptop or cellphone skins with her Wintergirls book cover design on it. Rick Riordan has these incredible t-shirts that he gives away when kids answer questions correctly at his book talks.

  40. Love the swag.. Hmmm It would depend on what my book was about.. My last was a collection of poetry and it was the normal cheezy stuff; not that I don't love me some bookmarks...

    ReplyDelete
  41. Dream swag? It would probably involve some sort of kitchsy edibles and maybe cool stickers.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  42. Oooh, dream swag for a launch party... It would definitely have to have something to do with eyes since my current WIP mentions them a lot. Maybe eyeball candies or little holographic bookmarks that have an eye that changes color and the book cover on them. An inexpensive version of a necklace that one girl wears would be cool as well. Heck, I don't care what I give out, I just want a book sold so I can have a launch party, lol!

I'm a follower, have been since before the contest.

  43. Well, I'm not a writer, but as a reader I would like to receive swag around a theme; something that relates to the subject(s) of the book. Honestly, I've never received anything like this, so I would absolutely love anything. You can never have enough bookmarks, especially nice ones.

  45. Hmm... I doubt I'll ever get anything I'm writing now published (but I'm still hoping!) My current work in progress is a YA medieval science fiction novel, so I'd give away some bookmarks, bookplates, trinkets, and autographed artwork that had to do with the story or characters.

    I just followed your blog.
