I've lost track of the number of passages I've written that are, not too sweet, exactly, but flat because the characters are not showing their darker sides. Not evil, necessarily, just darker, letting a bit of meanness peak through, or irritation or confusion. Great post.Suzanne Luceronoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7164206822403278866.post-63920145195757733712012-10-13T15:44:32.961-04:002012-10-13T15:44:32.961-04:00I love the masks and the YA discovery of who is we...I love the masks and the YA discovery of who is wearing them. MG and YA books are my passion, and too many authors today are jumping on the bandwagon without really understanding what makes a book MG vs YA vs adult. So nice to read a post by someone who gets it! I definitely think I'm portraying my characters the right way. No one who's gone through middle school thinks that it's a good time. I began writing it with just my own middle school experience in mind, but then I peer tutored over at the local middle school a few months back. It was a big reminder of just how cruel kids can be at that age. I watched kids go from being best friends to enemies literally in the span of minutes.Haley Kellerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12787155341934750100noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7164206822403278866.post-32122443626654955662012-10-03T11:16:50.250-04:002012-10-03T11:16:50.250-04:00Really great post.
