I wish I could hear her speak in a smaller group so I could really get a sense of her style.

Lois: one of my fav things about poetry is the examination of each word! :)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11431700962951592287noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7164206822403278866.post-26623601882644344882009-01-21T22:42:00.000-05:002009-01-21T22:42:00.000-05:00Elizabeth Alexander is a very talented poet. I like the coupling of the words "sharp sparkle" among others.lotusgirlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06663641163048764869noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7164206822403278866.post-8312440994696040852009-01-21T22:22:00.000-05:002009-01-21T22:22:00.000-05:00Sorry, deleted the first comment. I studied poetry in college. A lot. I used to write it like crazy, so I know a good poet when I see one. And Elizabeth Alexander has got the good stuff, let me tell you.

People commented that she read the poem like a robot. Well, it's poetry. And there were lots of people. And it was being broadcast over a mike and speakers. Trust me. With poetry, and an audience whose majority probably doesn't appreciate or understand much poetry, I thought the way she read it was perfect. She articulated every word - a good thing to do when you're reading a poem. It's one thing to read a poem in a small group of poets - quite another to read it a setting like the inauguration. I thought she did a fantastic job. That's just my opinion. :)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. You sound like you are a great teacher! And yes, it is still true that love conquers all. It always has. :)Michelle D.
