Pick Your Present! (Or: That's a lot of cows!)

So this happened:

We currently have over 1000 entries in the contest! Which means, of course, that there will be at least a $1000 donation to World Vision!

Check out World Vision and let me know what you think would be the best use of the donation! We can buy cows and goats and other livestock, or give micro loans to women, or put it towards share in a deep well, or...

  1. I vote something to do with a well! Woohoo!

This is funny because when I went to Passion 2011 and went to the Do Something Now/Go Center, I had this same problem! I think I ended up buying chickens and vaccines. haha I never thought I'd have that much fun spending a ridiculous amount of money for people I didn't even know. :)

  2. I'd go for the business loan for 5 women and $5500 worth of medicine. :)

  3. Perhaps you could split the money into something like the 13 Farm Animals and the Clean Water Fund.

I've looked at this site before and somehow never realized how much stuff there is to choose from. It's so hard to decide.

I think this is such an awesome thing to do!

  4. Clean Water! I truly believe that access to clean water is the most important thing people need. i can't imagine not having water to drink, brush my teeth, wash myself...wow. Lack of access to clean water kills so many people every year :(

  7. As much as I love the idea of sending people goats, I have to agree with the clean water.

The issue of clean drinking water is only going to get worse. Money now, when the problem isn't yet global, could be the make it or break it for a small village in the next ten years.

And did I mention how awesome you are for doing this?

    You are awesome.

  11. I am hoping you can do something for widows and orphans, so many of these unprotected people are exploited in sexual ways and due to an inability to gain education will then turn to "what they know" (possibly "what they think they are worth" psychologically) and go into prostitution.

    Just my two cents.

    Blessings and Merry Christmas,

  12. I would go with the 'maximum impact' or 'where most needed' option. That would help ensure that your donation is put to the best possible use.

Regardless of what you choose, though, this is an awesome thing that you're doing!

  17. Yay! I figured you'd get at least 1000 entries, and I'm really glad you did! That's so amazing! :D

I also think that a share in a well would be a great choice. So would some livestock, and some medicine. :)

This is so generous of you! You'll definitely be helping other people have some happy holidays this season. :)

  20. Oh my gosh, there are so many great opportunities here! I *think* the best way to spend it would be the 13 farm animals AND the $3000 worth of necessities, but of course these are all just such great causes whatever you hold nearest and dearest to your heart is the best place to put the money. I kind of wish there was something to promote literacy though!

  22. I think the water is good too... We used to do water walks at our high school to (raise money) just so that we would realize how hard it is to carry clean and prepare the water just so it can be drunk and it takes a lot of time and effort to do... Its not really something that we think about a lot but it would truly benefit people much more than we realize...

  28. This is such a wonderful post. It's so warming to know how thoughtful you are to others. I believe the best way to help out is to help provide fresh water. Many of us take for granted how lucky we are to have the most important necessity in life, yet so many in this world have no access to fresh water. Giving this to those in need would help out tremendously and save lives. Bless you, Beth!
